MIDDLE EAST TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY DIRECTIVE FOR RESIT EXAMINATIONS

Aim
ARTICLE 1- (1) The aim of this directive is to regulate the principles concerning the resit examinations given to students enrolled in the associate, undergraduate and graduate degree programs at theMiddle East Technical University.
Scope
ARTICLE 2- (1) This directive incorporates the provisions concerning the resit examinations given to students enrolled in the associate, undergraduate and graduate degree programs at theMiddle EastTechnicalUniversity.
Provisions concerning resit exams
ARTICLE 3- (1) Resit exams are administered for courses with final exams.
(2) Resit exams are not administered in courses where the end of semester letter grades evaluations are based on student work done throughout the semester (e.g. design and studio courses, courses with laboratory work, practical training, term projects, thesis work and courses related to thesis exct.). Courses within this context are specified by the concerned department/graduate school department. The Registrar’s Office is informed of and announces such courses.
(3) There is no resit exam for the School of Foreign Languages English Proficiency Exam (EPE).
(4) Resit exams are given for courses taken during the Fall and Spring semesters; they are not given for courses taken in Summer School.
(5) Resit exams are administered for end-of-semester letter grades:
a) FD, FF and U in associate and Bachelor’s degree programs,
b) DC, DD, FD, FF and U in Master’s degree programs,
c)CC,DC, DD, FD, FF and U in Ph.D. programs.
(6) In repeated and replaced courses, resit exams are administered only for the last semester the student fails.
(7) Among students with failing end-of-semester grades, only those who took the final exam and those who did not take it although they were entitled to can take the resit exam.
(8) Resit exams are not administered for the letter grade NA. Provisions concerning course attendance, the effect of course attendance on the end-of-semester letter grade, eligibility for the final exam and the provisions concerning the letter grade NA are announced to students both verbally and in writing (in the course syllabus, at METU-online, etc.) by the course instructors at the beginning of classes in the related semester.
The resit exam grade
ARTICLE 4- (1) Resit exam grades count as final exam grades.
(2) The student’s letter grade after the resit exam is determined by considering his/her performance throughout the semester and in the mid-term exams, his/her attendance to classes and applied work, and the grade he received in the resit exam.
(3) A special explanation is printed on the student’s transcript to indicate that the-end-of semester letter grade of the student was given after the resit exam.
Other provisions
ARTICLE 5- (1) Make-up exams are not given to students who did not take the resit exams.
(2) The dates concerning the resit exams and submission of grades are indicated on the Academic Calendar.
Northern CyprusCampus
ARTICLE 6 – (1) The procedures and principles regarding the implementation of this directive in METU Northern Cyprus Campus are determined by the University Senate.
Validity
ARTICLE 7 – (1) This directive takes effect on 26 March 2013, the date it was approved by the Middle East Technical University Senate.
Implementation
ARTICLE 8 – (1) This directive is implemented by the President of the Middle East Technical University.
